The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce on Monday said it is supporting the roads bill Conference report that House and Senate conferees agreed to on Friday.
“The state’s business community fully supports the Conference report, a compromise that delivers tax relief to South Carolinians, reforms DOT and provides a long term solution to fix our roads,” said Chamber President and CEO Ted Pitts. “This isn’t just a roads plan – it’s a jobs plan. We call on the House and the Senate to finish their work and adopt the report, and we respectfully ask Governor McMaster to do the right thing for the people of South Carolina and sign the bill.”
Sonoco CEO Jack Sanders also urged passage of the Conference report.
“The top issue facing South Carolina and our businesses is the need to invest in and improve our crumbling roads and bridges,” Sanders said. “We continue to ask the state’s leadership to put in place a long term sustainable solution and this proposal is that solution. We call on the General Assembly and Governor McMaster to finish the job on roads and support H3516. South Carolina has waited long enough. The time is now!”
